A boiler cannot be given to you for free just by using your attendance allowance.
But, it’s also possible that you receive benefits that may make you eligible, or that you meet other requirements without having your benefits taken into account at all.
The Energy Company Obligation scheme (ECO4), in its fourth iteration, is the applicable scheme and grant for you.
The aim of the ECO Scheme, which is shared by ECO3 and ECO4, has always been to assist the most vulnerable households by insulating them from growing energy costs through eco-home upgrades that may improve energy efficiency and lower carbon emissions. Benefits are not given as much attention as they should because the focus is on helping low-income households in energy-inefficient homes.
Attendance Allowance was regarded as a qualifying benefit under ECO3, but not under ECO4. How then do you become eligible for ECO4?
You can receive support under ECO4 if you meet one of the following requirements, have a household income of less than £31,000, and reside in a home (as a homeowner or private tenant) with an EPC grade of D, E, F, or G.
You can see that the Attendance Allowance is no longer a benefit that qualifies. However, ECO3 now includes extra benefits that weren’t previously. You will probably also be eligible for additional benefits in addition to Attendance Allowance, such as Housing Benefit or Universal Credit.

If you don’t meet the requirements for support under ECO4, you can still be eligible under LA Flex, which offers Local Authorities and Councils more latitude over the requirements for eligibility under ECO4 awards. This enables them to focus on the local households that require the greatest assistance.
If all you get is your Attendance Allowance, LA Flex might be able to assist you. Attendance Allowance is still not a qualified benefit, but there are other ways that LA Flex may be applicable.
Though each council and local authority handles LA Flex slightly differently, it’s best to simply fill out our quick form and we’ll get back to you shortly to let you know if you qualify for LA Flex support in your area. You’ll still need to be living in an energy-inefficient home with an annual income of less than £31,000.
