Of course! Most of the free boiler schemes we’ll talk about today are supported and financed by the government. Examples of these include the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, LA Flex, and ECO4. It is not as though free boilers are being offered to every household in the UK; rather, some qualifying requirements must be fulfilled to be eligible for support.
The Warm Homes Fund, which was established through a partnership between Affordable Warmth Solutions, National Grid, and Community Interest Company, is a little different. Once more, the funding is genuine, and there will be requirements for qualifying.
One of the most important appliances in your house is your boiler, so keeping it in top condition is essential if you want to reduce your energy costs and make sure your house is operating as it should. You won’t have to pay for an update just because your boiler needs one. You may be able to receive partial or complete compensation for the cost of installing a new boiler thanks to many free boiler grant programs and other environmental grants.
ECO4 is more than just a boiler scheme; it also includes solar panels and insulation, among other eco-friendly house upgrades. However, upgrades and replacement boilers are also included in this.
ECO4 was primarily designed to lower carbon emissions and increase energy efficiency in all UK houses. It started in April 2022 and will last until the end of March 2026. The scheme contains several phases. Many of the major energy providers are required to contribute funds under the program, which powers the UK government’s ECO scheme.
The Northern Ireland Sustainable Energy Programme is available to those seeking a free boiler in Northern Ireland; however, we won’t be discussing that program today. Not everyone qualifies for an ECO4 free boiler award, and even those who do may only be able to receive a portion of the money. The precise amount of financing that you will receive will depend on factors such as your household income and the necessary eco-friendly home modifications.Â
This is so that ECO4 can support the lowest-income households in the UK who reside in the most energy-inefficient dwellings. The eligibility requirements so take this into account.

You should be eligible for a free or partially financed boiler if you are a single parent OR a two-parent household receiving child benefits and your household income is less than the figures listed below:
Energy Companies Obligation, or ECO for short, is the energy companies’ responsibility to provide full or partial funding for new or replacement boilers. Consequently, financing is accessible from many energy providers, such as:
As you can see, all of the UK’s largest energy firms are required to participate in the ECO4 system and provide funding in accordance with that participation. If you’re not sure if your energy provider is a part of the ECO4, it’s worth contacting them directly as some smaller providers have chosen to participate in the scheme on their own.
In that it offers partially paid or free boilers and improvements, LA Flex functions similarly to ECO4. The scheme is far more flexible, which is the primary distinction.
The Local Authority Flexible Eligibility Scheme, or LA Flex for short, is a component of ECO4, although it allows local authorities more latitude over who is truly eligible for financing.
In essence, it enables councils and local governments to provide more focused assistance to the most needy households in their community, even if they would not otherwise qualify under ECO4.
You may be thinking that installing a new boiler is more trouble than it’s worth before we look at the other grants we’ll discuss today. However, after seeing some of the usual repair costs listed below, you might think twice about how much more costly it could be to continue using your outdated boiler:

The table mentioned above is based on averages for the UK and the most frequently needed repairs; the prices in your area may fluctuate greatly, and you may need different repairs, which would increase the cost of your repairs.Â
The fact is that ancient boilers have a higher likelihood of malfunctioning, and if they do, you may have to shell out a substantial amount for repairs. It may therefore be worthwhile for you to pursue eco-home improvement incentives in order to purchase a new, more dependable boiler.
In 2017, Affordable Warmth Solutions, National Grid, and Community Interest Company launched the Warm houses Fund, providing low-income households with energy-inefficient houses with £160 million in support.Â
If your home is low income and your boiler is replacing an inefficient or high carbon emission system, you may be eligible for a free or partially financed boiler as part of the Warm Homes Fund.
The problem with applying for the Warm Homes Fund is that money is distributed through multiple programs, making it confusing to find out who to apply to and where to search. While Connected for Warmth is undoubtedly the biggest initiative, the Warm Homes Fund acknowledges that they collaborate with more than 100 Local Authorities and Registered Social Landlords to offer over 220 programs. That’s a lot of work for one person to understand.Â

The Boiler convert Scheme, which is only available in England and Wales, offers a grant to assist with a portion of the cost of replacing fossil fuel heating systems; however, in this case, you would have to convert to a biomass boiler or heat pump.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme, which runs from 2022 to 2028, offers up to £7,500 in savings when compared to the cost of buying a heat pump or other alternative heating system. The sum was raised from the previous level of support of £5,000 in October 2023. The maximum grant amount for biomass boilers is still £5,000.
This isn’t a free boiler scheme, of course, but if you don’t qualify for a free boiler scheme under ECO4 or LA Flex, partial funding might help you finance the new boiler option you’ve been looking for.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is available to homeowners in England and Wales, although it does not apply to newly constructed residences, nor is it eligible to homeowners who have previously received cash from government programs such as ECO4.
